Hi GREN Exec,
Below is the proposal submitted to the Greenbelt Foundation from the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance today. GREN is one of six supporting/participating groups along with David Crombie’s new Citizen Forum group.
The most important part of this proposal is that it will form the base funding that will allow the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance to continue to operate over the next two years. The OGA has been instrumental in the protection and stewardship of the Greenbelt, the defeat of Bill 66, the push back on the Conservation Authority cutbacks, the overuse of MZO’s, and many other issues of provincial significance. It is one of the few connections environmental groups in Waterloo Region have to the broader Ontario context so keeping this group alive and funded is particularly important in this era of Doug Ford and his approach to governing.
While it is geared more towards larger environmental organizations with staff and fundraising (who will do the bulk of the work), the local deliverables are modest and within the scope of what we can accomplish at GREN - particularly with my ongoing involvement, assistance from Franz Hartman (the current chair of the OGA), etc.
Please let me know any questions or ideas. We should hear more from the Greenbelt Foundation in a few weeks though there is a second proposal that will be need to be completed in the next few days that I will work on tomorrow.
Cheers,
Kevin.
