Here’s the latest:
1) Breaking News - Province Finally Admits It's Funding The Wilmot Mega-Industrial Site - Kudos to CityNews reporters who were able to catch the new provincial Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agri-Business Rob Flack in Cambridge on Wednesday, and get him to finally admit the provincial government is providing the funding for the absurd Wilmot mega-industrial site. This is in direct contravention to Minister of Red Tape Reduction, local MPP Mike Harris Jr. who has repeatedly claimed that the province has no involvement, that this is a Regional initiative, that everything so far was the Region’s fault, etc.
So which Minister do we believe? The new Minister who claims the province is funding it all, or the new Minister that claims there is no provincial involvement and has been blaming others since the onset with no indication that he has even been to Wilmot Township anytime in the past five months?
Below in Section B is an excellent video comparing Mike Harris’s claims about no provincial involvement to Rob Flack’s admission that the province is providing the significant funding needed. You can also watch the video online at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0EAjWXCvRM
MPP Catherine Fife posted on X: “Provincial cash is funding the Wilmot Land Assembly with the loss of class 1 farmland. @RobFlackEML said the province is supporting the purchase of the land financially, but he could not provide a dollar value for how much his gov is putting in”:

Region Shreds Corn and Taxpayer Dollars - The outrage has continued about the Region of Waterloo ordering 160 acres of corn to be destroyed just weeks from harvest at a cost of at least $200,000 taxpayer dollars and wasting enough corn to make over 2.5 million boxes of cereal at a time when so many people are food insecure. Wilmot Councillor Harvir Sidhu spoke out expressing his concerns about such needless waste:

New PunkeyDoodles Steve Todd Song - The Sign On The 7/8: Steve Todd has a new song about the Drinking Water Protection Zone and the groundwater around the proposed Wilmot mega-industrial site. He raises great questions about what some people are willing to destroy for a factory. Check it out at:

Special Mike Farwell Radio Show/570 News Dedicates 2 Hours To Wilmot Land Assembly - On Thursday from 11:00am to 1:00pm Mike Farwell dedicated two hours for a special radio show with Waterloo Regional Councillor for Kitchener Rob Deutschmann who took calls from the public for the first chance that citizens have had to ask any questions about this mega-industrial site since it became public almost six months ago. Unfortunately, little new information was provided and the anger/frustration of most callers came through loud and clear. Most answers seemed to be “I can’t talk about that because of the NDA”, “It’s in the best interest of the Region” and “All the information is on the Region’s website” when in reality the few pages of sparse information online do little to answer so many of the concerns and questions about this massive proposed development.

Breaking Stories - The Narwhal - Here’s the fantastic Narwhal Article just released yesterday with great interviews and photography about the farmers being devastated by this mega-industrial site. This is a detailed story that will be seen nationally from coast to coast in Canada. We will continue to seek out national coverage as there are increasing issues of national significance here as this land assembly destroys our values, our communities, and threatens democracy itself with our government's unprecedented approach:

Upcoming Rallies and Protests - Next Friday at FordFest in Milton (information below), Monday August 26th at Wilmot Township Council, and Wednesday, August 28th at Waterloo Regional Council are important opportunities for our communities to show firsthand that we are unwilling. Please save the dates and watch for more information on these upcoming events.
Wilmot Township Council: 60 Snyder’s Road West, Baden - Monday, August 26, 2024 - 5:30 pm (council meets at 7:00 pm)
Region of Waterloo Council: 150 Frederick Street, Kitchener - Wednesday, August 28, 2024 - 6:30 pm
Action Required - Please continue to speak up, join upcoming rallies/protests, and continue to show that our communities are unwilling!
2) Protest At FordFest Friday, August 16th 4pm to 6pm - Doug Ford is hosting his annual FordFest in Milton on Friday, August 16th to celebrate his so-called “accomplishments”. However we know what he has really accomplished. This will be the first FordFest since last September’s wildly successful counter protest at Bingeman’s in Kitchener. Let’s remind the Ford government that our anger has not subsided at the attacks on the places and services that Ontarians love!
Labour Unions (Ontario Federation of Labour, OPSEU, OSSTF, and others), environmental groups (Environmental Defence, Reform Gravel Mining Coalition) and many local organizations have come together in a big way to plan this counter protest.
There will be buses provided from Kitchener, Hamilton, York Region and other areas. Please sign-up on the Ontario Federation of Labour website to be kept updated on the latest information and organizing details:
https://ofl.ca/event/thankdougford-for-getting-it-done/
More information is also in the poster attached below. Hopefully you can join the fun to help send a strong message to the Premier.
3) Significant Forest To Be Clearcut - Concern is being raised about a forest that is about to be razed. Conestoga Meats has applied to destroy a significant 14 hectare forest parcel as part of its expansion in Breslau on the east side of Kitchener. Although the clearing is very concerning, Conestoga Meats is a co-operative of 158 hog farmers who have each committed to creating a 1 acre forest on each of their own farms to replace the trees lost for the factory expansion. Learn more and speak up at the hearing that has now been delayed until the August 28th meeting of the Regional Licensing and Permitting Committee:

4) Bill 185 Fallout Continues - Numerous Citizen Group’s appeals and cases have been rejected by the Ontario Land Tribunal as a result of Bill 185 which recently removed the rights of citizens to launch or participate in third party appeals. Learn more about the community groups being denied the ability to speak out about concerns and fight troubling proposals in our communities:
