Great news!
1) PPS/Rural Severances - Kudo’s to everyone who spoke up, delegated, submitted, phoned, wrote, and talked to others. Minister Steve Clark has just announced that the government underestimated the amount of feedback and interest in the Provincial Policy Statement and Rural Severances and he has added 60 days to the comment period extending the deadline from June 6th until August 4th.

Global News - Ontario Abandons Proposal to Sever Farmland Lois In Response to Farmer Opposition:
https://globalnews.ca/news/9732752/ontario-farm-lots/
The government has blinked and we have accomplished already what many said was impossible - to get them to alter course. Now we need to keep up the feedback, the letters, delegations and e-mails to ensure the province backs completely away from these absurd and devastating rural severances. Already Minister Clark is claiming that “It has never been our intention for severed lots to be transferred or sold to non-family/farm owners” and that they will look at alternatives and better clarify their intentions.
Minister of Agriculture Lisa Thompson confirmed that farm severances are "off the table" in today's Question Period at Queen's Park, but we will need to ensure the government cancels things and stay vigilant as farm and rural severances will likely come again under a new guise by this government:
https://twitter.com/jessiecatherine/status/1663567641729007617?cxt=HHwWgoC8kZn9lpYuAAAA
We need to ensure that the government deletes these proposed farmland severance policies completely and allows places like Waterloo Region to retain its “No Rural Severances Policy” that has been protecting our farms, countryside and groundwater for more than 50 years. Please continue to speak up, send letters, and raise this issue with elected officials.
2) Municipalities Object To Rural Severances - Kudo’s to municipalities across Ontario who are standing up and speaking out against many of the proposed PPS changes including the absurd rural severances. Last week Ontario Federation of Agriculture Director Mark Reusser and Expert Planner Kevin Eby gave some of the best delegations that we have seen to Waterloo Regional Council. Watch their incredible presentations and how strongly they impacted Mayors and Councillors starting at the 7 minute mark:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N7xD39taWg
Last week we also saw Woolwich Township issue an excellent Staff Report against the rural severances and other proposed PPS changes. Woolwich has drafted fantastic motions against the rural severances that they have circulated to other area municipalities to adopt as well.
We have already been successful in getting the City of Waterloo to adopt a variation of them yesterday, Wilmot Township has agreed to bring it to their next Council meeting, and Woolwich Township will be deciding on similar motions tonight at their Council meeting. We encourage you to share these motions (attached below in the Woolwich Staff Report) with your municipality too so that every jurisdiction in Ontario can send a clear message to the province against the worst of the proposed PPS changes.
Please also reach out to your local municipal staff to ensure that they are drafting Staff Reports for their Councils and sending them to the province as well. There have been excellent reports (attached below) recently from Wilmot Township, Woolwich Township, and Wellesley Township. City of Kitchener Staff is working on a Staff Report too.
3) Recent Media - there continues to be excellent coverage of the issues in the media:

4) New Mapping Analysis Confirms More Than Enough Land Designated for Development Already - Without Touching the Greenbelt: Environmental Defence has completed a new analysis that shows more than 30 years worth of housing could already be delivered on just a portion of the lands that were already approved prior to 2022:
https://environmentaldefence.ca/2023/05/30/new-mapping-and-analysis-discredits-the-ontario-governments-excuses-for-forcing-suburban-boundary-expansions-and-removing-greenbelt-floodplain-and-wetland-protections/
The analysis includes an excellent interactive map with clickable layers to really be able to dive into and understand the land situation:

5) Greenbelt Overview Presentation - Liz Benneian an amazing environmental activist in the Niagara Region, is hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, May 31st from 7pm to 8pm about the history and background of the Greenbelt. She realized that many people may not be familiar with its origins, why it was created, and how it is so integral for our future quality of life in Ontario. A poster with details is attached below or join the event online directly at:

6) NDP Stop The Sprawl Virtual Rally and Town Hall - Join Official Opposition Housing Critic NDP MPP Jessica Bell and NDP MPP for Waterloo Catherine Fife for an online virtual Town Hall discussing how the housing crisis can be solved while protecting the Greenbelt and farmland on Wednesday, May 31st at 7pm. There are already over 100 people registered for the event and a great line up of speakers, including our very own Kevin Thomason and Margaret Prophet representing the Greenbelt Promise campaign. RSVP online at:

7) Enough is Enough Day of Action on June 3rd - The Ontario Federation of Labour is doing a fantastic job organizing events across Ontario as part of their Saturday, June 3rd Enough is Enough campaign to push back against the policies of the provincial government - so many of which are not in the best interest of the public. Let's have a strong environmental/Greenbelt/farmland protection contingent at events across our Grand River watershed on June 3rd!

The Green Party of Ontario is organizing specific Hands Off The Greenbelt actions at many of these events. You can find a map and further details here:
https://gpo.ca/greenbelt/
The Green Party has also confirmed that Green Party Leader MPP Mike Schreiner will be at the Kitchener event along with Kitchener-Centre candidate Aislinn Clancy Saturday morning and then at both Guelph area Enough is Enough events in the afternoon:
https://vote.greenparty.ca/rsvp/eve_f9f94cf05 and https://vote.greenparty.ca/rsvp/eve_f06643f53
8) Rally???? - Our Rally Committee is wondering about hosting our next rally sometime between now and the August 6th PPS ERO deadline. It could be a perfect opportunity to bring together a broad range of groups such as affordable housing advocates, agricultural groups, environmental groups, and many others concerned about the proposed PPS changes, housing, and rural severances. Please let either Mike or Kevin know if you would be interested in joining the Rally Committee to help plan this next event or if you have any ideas on how we can surpass our last events with even greater impact.
9) Ontario Water Guardians Petition - There is an online petition against the abolition of regional planning, rural severances, changes to the PPS and more. It’s a quick and easy one-click process to sign the petition and send letters to your MPP and Minister’s:
https://act.newmode.net/action/ontario-headwaters-institute/ontario-water-guardians-urge-new-support-greenbelt-and-retention
10) Ontario Nature Action Alert - If you haven’t signed the Ontario Nature Action Alert against Ford’s proposed policies that will accelerate urban sprawl and farmland loss please take a minute to sign this petition and easily send your comments to elected officials.
https://ontarionature.good.do/no-sprawl/email/
11) The Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition & Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition Advertisements - The SCGB, RLSC, and others are running advertisements calling out their local MPPs and actions against the Greenbelt in local newspapers. The messaging is direct and informative for the public to immediately understand local implications. An example of one of the ads is attached below.

H) We Will Not Be Divided Campaign Materials - here are some of the excellent materials produced by the farm organizations to fight Bill 97 and the PPS Severance policies. Please share these on social media and distribute them widely:

🚨ACTION ALERT🚨
We need your help.
Bill 97 and Proposed Provincial Planning Statement will have an enormous impact on the future of farmland. Allowing up to three lot severances per farm parcel means that residential developments will be scattered throughout prime agricultural land, irreparably fragmenting and paving over farmland. Ontario’s productive farmland is a scarce resource, making up less than five per cent of all the land in the province. We already lose 319 acres a day–we can’t afford to lose any more.
Use the action tool linked in our bio to send Minister Clark a letter, letting him know that you oppose BIll 97. The more emails in his inbox the better–share this post, and let the Ontario Government know that we will not be divided!

Michelle --
With almost 30 events taking place across Ontario for the June 3 day of action, it's clear momentum is growing for real solutions to the cost of living crisis.
<https://www.justice4workers.org/enoughon?e=92bd50ab8ef69832606b336908e73744&utm_source=decentworknow&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=may_26_update&n=2>Let us know you’re coming! <https://www.justice4workers.org/enoughon?e=92bd50ab8ef69832606b336908e73744&utm_source=decentworknow&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=may_26_update&n=3>
Everyone is worried about whether they're going to have enough money at the end of the month to pay rent, buy groceries and take care of loved ones. But while this crisis deepens, our government seems to only look out for their corporate friends.
That’s why, on June 3, we're coming together across Ontario to say: "Enough is Enough!"

Organizing for June 3 is just the beginning. To make a lasting difference, we need to build real power in our workplaces and communities. Everything we do in the lead-up to June 3 — and in the days afterward — will be crucial in the ongoing fight to make sure this government starts putting people before corporate profit.
