Hi Lori,

Excellent e-mail and ideas. FLAP runs a great program and there is so much that we could be doing to make our buildings safer for birds. This is an initiative we should put on the GREN Agenda - I’m sure that we could get Waterloo Region and local municipalities to adopt best-practices and building guidelines similar to the City of Toronto.

I know even for my new house construction I am looking at using Ornilux Glass that has an infrared pattern birds can see but humans can’t - looking like regular glass to us but helping to prevent birds from flying into the windows.

Thanks for sharing!
Kevin.

We need to get some kind of a bylaw(?) going here as they do in Toronto- all new buildings must meet a code for bird-friendly windows I believe, as well as rules for leaving less lights on in office buildings overnight.. http://flap.org/pdfs/Touching%20Down%20Sp17.pdf <http://flap.org/pdfs/Touching%20Down%20Sp17.pdf> I see an office building from our house that leaves so many lights on at night that its ridiculous. There can't be cleaners in there all night!
