[All] Backyard fire ban petition in Kitchener

Hi all:

I live in the City of Waterloo, rural Waterloo.

My neighbours are quite a distance away, and with the Laurel Creek ESL
designation here, it is unlikely that I will see considerable development
in my lifetime.

My neighbour to the south owns 90 acres that wraps around to the south and
east of our property. Another neighbour owns 20 acres to the north, and my
closest neighbour has a small parcel on the west side, but she is 1/4 mile
from our home. We rarely visit or bother each other -- I probably say
hello to them more when they're on their tractors than I do at their homes.

I understand how difficult it must be for those living close to each other,
but I think there should be exemptions for properties that do not and will
not have neighbours closeby.

I have an open spot on our property on the other side of Laurel Creek where
I'd like to set up a tent, have the odd bonfire and cook marshmallows with
my children, but under the current by-law in the City of Waterloo, I can't.

... something to consider in the next round of discussions.
