It's potentially here now Derek -- worldwide! Too bad our local
politicians promote so few leading-edge IDEAS -- and our developers
are mostly innovation-averse! (Over 25 yrs. ago I helped catalyze --
with cooperation of MPP John Sweeney & Sch. of Arch. Dir. Rick
Haldenby -- the Waterloo Green Home. And nothing happened with
developers!) Beyond our universities/'community college' (didn't those
Conestoga engineering students do great?!) and hi-tech companies, do
we just mostly pretend to be Pioneering Innovators? Kudos to Lancaster
Calif. Mayor R. Rex Parris -- a conservative yet!

An Electric Vehicle (EV) world is rapidly approaching -- with LRT
manufacturers starting to offer EV battery options. This is obviously
because batteries are rapidly increasing in proven cost-effectiveness.
But again our RTI project engineers -- in their great innovative
wisdom -- are reluctant to explore how batteries (or a "convertible"
diesel-electric hybrid first) could save approx. 1/4 the LRT system
cost by not installing a catenary system initially -- and possibly
never as batteries improve! Oh how irrational fear of failure can
shift the brain to almost a chronic lower reptilian level (fight or
flight response) robbing us of our potential intelligence! If an LRT
system design is to be approved by a now very wary Regional
Councillors and citizens, then the RTI project engineers must somehow
develop innovative courage -- sometimes miracles happen! Odds are
their current non-citizen-involving (except after the fact) efforts
will slightly reduce costs but do little for performance, especially
real (c.f. pretended) traffic reduction.
