Dear Council Members
 
Calcium Fluoride aka "Natural Fluoride" and Hydrofluorosilicic Acid are to vastly different chemicals. In order to illustrate this simple point, here is the detailed description of BOTH chemicals as taken from an agency that sells these chemicals. (It's a quick non partisan view of the basic chemical properties.)

In a nutshell they are two completely different products. One is a calcium based mineral found in nature. It is solid and can be reduced to powder form with trace elements being found in groundwater, streams etc. The other is an acid, generated as a byproduct of the pesticide or coal burning industry. 
 
Some medicines work by "apoptosis" causing the cells to basically die off on their own. Other chemicals, including fluoride works because it kills of bacteria by "necrosis" meaning the cells die because a chemical is introduced.  In lay man's terms it's a poison. Fluoride is a micro version of concept of pesticide. The problem is, when these products were originally approved, they didn't have the science or knowledge to realize that the fluoride's toxicity can attack beneficial human cells as well. 
 
Fluoride as a product for dental care is designed to be a topical application to address a site specific issue but it is not designed to ingest. Fluoride use is the same logic as polysporin. You apply it to the area where the bacteria poses a risk. Your not supposed to drink the stuff. 
 
In my view, I honestly don't know why in this day an age people need to have this discussion but if there is to be a ballot, I support the use of the actual term of the product being used: Hydrofluorosilicic Acid. Be honest with the citizens and don't play down the truth. If that's the name of the bona fide product being used, that is the term we must use.
If that term is not used, I guarantee you an OMB hearing because it won't take any time at all to secure a professional chemist who can represent the fact that Fluoride is not Hydrofluorosilicic Acid.  It's as silly as having to prove that milk is not water. It may contain water but it is not water. It's an easy win.
 
Spare our community the expense and simply say it like it is.
