[GREN-Exec] request

I agree with John. We should always welcome individuals and groups to provide their information, but it shouldn't detract from the purpose of the meeting and our direction of it. Also, candidates should be asked to be clear on the legality of campaigning before a writ has been issued.

I believe that Walsh-Bowers ran for the NDP one or two or three elections ago. Right now I feel so sour abut the demise of civility and ethics in federal politics that I wish we had a Canadian counterpart of the independent candidate in the last election in Ukraine who had his name legally changed to "None of the Above" for the ballot.

GREN Executive

We need to make a decision regarding the request at the end of this e-mail list that LuLu has received from a federal candidate to distribute literature at our event in April. Just before my e-mail you can see Susan K’s thoughts on this. My thought, different from Susan K’s, is that we should set up a table in the room for anyone who wishes to to set out any literature they wish, including political candidates. But candidates or parties should not be allowed to distribute it or greet at the door, etc. - only having it on a table with other people’s literature.

What do the rest of you think?

John

Only if all the other candidates are invited. Just thinking out loud here that since aboriginal affairs are a federal issue, it might be a good opportunity to invite and educate federal/provincial candidates. On the other hand, this is now in the hands of the courts, but then again the point of this case is to “force” the provincial and federal government to make better decisions regarding pollution.

Actually, I don’t think he’s allowed to campaign until an election is called, so I don’t think we can say yay or nay until that happens.

IMHO…

Hi, Louisette,

As an independent federal candidate for the riding of Kitchener-Waterloo in the forthcoming election, I'd like to attend the April 6th panel discussion. I'm wondering if I might distribute my campaign literature at this event. Please advise. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Richard
