[GREN-Exec] GREN policy on decision making

Hi Randy,
I'm not finding this discussion to be productive because it's not addressing
what I see as the real issue.
It's not about the LRT, it's about how GREN makes decisions and resolves
conflict as an organization to make us most effective as a collective body.
We have defined what GREN is by our mission statement and principles. We
are in the process of drafting policies and procedures. I go back to my
previous suggestion that the people who are concerned that their opinions
were not duly considered, should offer up a solution as to how we resolve
these inevitable disagreements in a fair and objective manner.
I'm not trying to be an autocrat here, just know from experience how
important it is to have everyone agree to and understand the rules of the
game so we can all play on the same team and stop fighting with each other
and put our energies into fighting the "bad guys".
My 2 bits..8-)

Susan:
The question was not our doing and GREN failed to interpret the issue
properly.
1st the ROP was a draft, not final and of little use to comment on.
2nd since there has been an economical down turn of historic proportion and
no money for such purposes will be available for a long time.
3rd and more important to me maybe than others we are spending too much time
in Waterloo Region and not enough time making the NET-WORK. The GRAND RIVER
ENVIRONMENT NET-WORK.
People are really upset about the 17 councillors (none of whom can take
notes and report back) spending #50k to party in Calgary. How are they
going to feel when hit with a $250 or $300 or more MILLION dollar bill
(North Dumfries is not involved so I really don't care...does that mean I am
out of the NET-WORK?)
It is not an issue
GREN is better suited to act as the mortar to hold all environmental groups
together along the Grand River. If we want to go into this detail then go
to the specific group but GREN should not be taking issues in such a
half-assed manner because we will burn out and the first sign is loosing
members.

Hi GREN Exec,
I wasn't sure if I (we?) should be responding to concerns raised about our
position on the LRT.
It would suggest that we need to formalize our decision-making procedures.
Perhaps the people who do not believe their opinions were given ample
consideration should be offered the opportunity to draft GREN's policy and
practice on decision-making.
Comments?
Susan K
P.S. Sorry if this is sounding somewhat snarky, but I personally think ample
opportunity was given to comment and have little patience for naysayers
after the fact.
