Good Day,

Fight For Farmland full house, Conservation Authorities update Strategic Plans, Highway #413 roadblocks, the War On Bike Lanes continues. Join us on Zoom on Friday at 5:30pm to discuss and learn more:

Join us tomorrow - Friday, November 1st at 5:30pm:
	https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82644695701?pwd=bnRsUGtWSUcrRnFWR21uYVBISG9jZz0 <https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82644695701?pwd=bnRsUGtWSUcrRnFWR21uYVBISG9jZz09>
Here’s the latest:

1) Fight For Farmland - It was fantastic to see the Princess Cinema full of supporters on Monday night for the screening of Rebels With A Cause, part of the Laurier Wellbeing In Film Forum (LWIFF). Musician Steve Todd played great live music before the movie and then performed “770 Acres” before the community discussion. There were lots of great questions and ideas discussed after the very motivating movie about how citizen groups had worked for years to protect Northern California farms and environmental areas.

The CBC did a great job of interviewing the organizers from Laurier before the film that you can listen to at the following link:

	https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-104-the-morning-edition-k-w/clip/16103640-documentary-screening-hopes-spark-discussion-wilmot-land-deal

Thanks again to the amazing team at Laurier for organizing and funding this event for our community. You can learn about upcoming movies on other issues at:

	https://www.instagram.com/00lwiff/

And if you missed the screening and would like to watch Rebels With A Cause you can view it at: https://www.pbs.org/video/rebels-with-a-cause-g718xi/

Fight For Farmland Filming - Thom Varey, a renowned Canadian film-maker has been in Wilmot and working over the past two weeks to interview and film the Wilmot Land Assembly to create online materials and perhaps even a short documentary about the situation unfolding Wilmot as democracy and all previous planning is being overridden against considerable public concern and pushback without even a single public meeting.

Thanks to Kathy and John Jordan for organizing this initiative including full days of being our own Oprah Winfrey interviewing and production crew leading all the interviews. There are costs of a few thousand dollars being incurred to rent professional filming gear, etc. and how much can be edited together into some sort of documentary may depend on resources. If you can help donate to the cause please e-mail or e-transfer to john at johnjordan.ca.

Investigations - Numerous investigations into the Wilmot Land Assembly are continuing and there has been interviews happening over the past two weeks as investigators dig into concerns about closed meetings, rejected Freedom Of Information requests, breaches of protocol, and improper activities. We should have more information and updates in the coming weeks.

Recent Media - Includes a great article by Luisa D’Amato linking the $200 provincial cheques to the Wilmot Land Assembly and other issues Doug Ford wants to distract you from:

The Record - Ford Knows What He’s Doing With Those $200 Cheques:
	https://www.therecord.com/opinion/columnists/ford-knows-what-hes-doing-with-those-200-cheques/article_b97975f7-f527-56ae-9664-acdc36003aee.html

Upcoming Meetings - This coming week there is a Monday (November 4th) Wilmot Council Meeting where we hope there will at least be a General Interest delegation or two on the Wilmot Land Assembly. Please register to speak with the Wilmot Clerk at clerks at wilmot.ca <mailto:clerks at wilmot.ca> if you can speak about your concerns with the proposal and how it will impact you and your family. We will continue our break from protesting at Wilmot Council this month but hope that you will join us on Wednesday November 20th at 6:30pm to protest in advance of the next Region of Waterloo Council Meeting:

Wilmot Township Council: 60 Snyder’s Road West, Baden - Monday, November 4th - Council Meeting starts at 7:00 pm

Region of Waterloo Council Meeting: 150 Fredrick Street East, Kitchener - Wednesday, November 20th - 6:30pm Rally & Protest, Council Meeting starts at 7:00pm

Lawn signs - Demand for lawn signs continues to be strong with 40 more lawn signs distributed this past week. Find a Sign Captain close to you at www.fightforfarmland.com <http://www.fightforfarmland.com/> and continue to show that our communities are unwilling!

Action Required - We need to keep writing and calling Premier Ford, Cabinet Ministers, and local MPPs Mike Harris Jr, Jess Dixon, Brian Riddell, and others to keep the pressure on Queen’s Park and let them know that we are an UNWILLING HOST.

2) Conservation Authorities Strategic Plans - Conservation Authorities across Ontario continue to finalize their Strategic Plans in advance of the deadline with a considerable variation in the amount of public engagement and consultation. Thanks to Susan Watson, Laura Murr, Dr. Hugh Whiteley, The Water Watchers, Environmental Defence, and everyone who did an absolutely amazing job of weighing in on the GRCA Conservation Area Strategy! There are tons of personalized comments and an overwhelming message not to sell Conservation Authority land.

The podcast on the Breeze Breakfast show featuring Dr. Hugh Whiteley is now online. Listen to it at:

	https://breezybreakfastradiohour.podbean.com/e/episode-195-the-niska-lands/

Please reach out to your local elected officials and ask them why the GRCA isn't consulting with municipalities on their newly drafter Conservation Strategy Area Strategy? We just found out that Conservation Halton is doing just that with their Conservation Strategy - they are bringing their conservation strategy to Puslinch Council. Aren't all municipal partners who pay their levy entitle to the same treatment/consulation? See pg 4 item 10:

	https://puslinch.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/November-6-2024-Council-Meeting-Agenda.pdf

Action Required - Keep speaking up to our Conservation Authorities and elected officials for the future you want to see.

3) Bill 212 and Highway 413 Roadblocks - Bill 212 (Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act) is being moved quickly through the legislature having passed the requisite 6.5 hours of debate and second reading.

Ontarians who care about environmental assessments for highways and oppose the removal of bike lanes by the Ford government are mobilizing. Environmental Defence will be holding a webinar on the legislation on November 19th and a series of rallies are planned for the late November.

The union representing engineers working on key provincial projects such as Highway #413 and the Bradford Bypass are planning to start to pull engineers from these projects in an escalation of job action after more than two years without a contract. This could significantly hamper and even prevent the provincial government from continuing work on these troubling projects:

The ERO posting for Bill 212 can be found here: https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/019-9265

Action Required - Please post on the ERO and let elected officials know of your support for bike lanes and concerns about provincial government actions to provision unnecessary highways with none of the required planning or assessments..

4) Waterloo Region Climate Collaborative (WRCC) Announces Election Collaboration Workshop - On Thursday, November 14th at 7pm organizations and citizens are being encouraged to attend the next WRCC meeting to collaborate on how to achieve the maximum climate impact on election outcomes. Details are as follows:

Where: Wilfrid Laurier University, Dr. Alvin Woods Building, Room 2-104
Parking passes available via e-mail from: alatta at wlu.ca

Action Required: Please attend this meeting and see how you and your organization can boost synergies and results in upcoming federal and provincial elections.

5) ClimateAction WR Community Workshop - Also on Thursday, November 14th at 8pm ClimateAction WR is offering a workshop in partnership with Project Neutral on Climate Change and local solutions. Learn how to measure your impact with Project Neutral’s carbon-calculating tool and steps for meaningful climate action. Learn more at:

6) Recent Articles - Includes the Wilmot Mayor Natasha Salonen voting against the Erbs Road shelters, more potential consequences of absurd bike lane changes, and if the Premier will allow candidates to speak in upcoming elections:

	https://www.thetrillium.ca/news/politics/will-upcoming-pc-candidates-be-allowed-to-speak-premier-wont-say-9724803
This approach from Conservative parties is a disgrace and insult to democracy - not participating in the public election process should disqualify a candidate and voters should ensure that such antics doesn't result in successfully any winning seats.

7) Federal Government Proceeding With High Speed Rail - It’s fantastic to hear news that the federal government has selected the chosen consortium and will be making an announcement about proceeding with high speed rail surpassing 300km/hr between Toronto and Quebec City. Unfortunately there still appears to be no connection to Southern Ontario and we are going to continue to be stuck on Highway #401 to Toronto for decades to come in the Grand River watershed:

CBC - Federal Government Going Ahead With High Speed Rail Between Quebec City And Toronto:
	https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/high-speed-rail-canada-1.7365835

Leadnow.ca has a petition insupportable of high speed rail that you can sign to show your support to the federal government:

	https://you.leadnow.ca/petitions/make-the-high-speed-rail-line-along-the-toronto-quebec-city-corridor-happen

Action Required - Please continue to speak up to federal politicians about the need for high speed rail to the Grand River Watershed and our 1 million+ residents.

8) Help Endorse ALO Report - The Alliance for a Liveable Ontario is seeking additional groups to endorse its report on Five Ways To Make Homes Affordable In Ontario. Please contact Franz Hartmann at info at liveableontario.ca for more information and to help endorse this report to Ontario political party leaders that will be released in late November.

9) Climate Emergency Vigil This Friday! - This Friday, November 1st, Faith Climate Justice Waterloo Region will be hosting a public climate emergency vigil in Waterloo Public Square, free for all to attend. These vigils build on the power of the 16 vigils hosted last fall, and are designed to create sacred spaces to process complex climate emotions together, to reflect, and to share opportunities for action leading up to the Conference of the Parties climate talks, COP29 happening in November. Spread the word and we hope you will join us. For more information see the poster attached below or visit:
