Good Day,

It’s been another confounding week as not only will Bill 212 remove important bike lanes and force unnecessary highways but Doug Ford’s provincial government just amended it so cyclists injured or killed in the future won’t even be able to sue the government over the removal of the lanes, the Fight For Farmland continues to get more front-page coverage, another new Red Tape Reduction Act has been announced threatening important regulations and safety protocols, Brant County announces Open Houses for Paris Big Dig, and more. Here’s the latest:

1) Fight For Farmland - The front page coverage continued this week with area newspapers and agricultural publications province-wide covering the impacts of Donald Trump’s election including how his border tariffs, dislike of EVs and ending of government subsidies for anything but fossil fuels eliminates the likelihood of any massive mega-industrial site costing billions and billions of dollars being built in Canada anytime soon.

Also, today Northvolt, the Swedish battery company behind the massive $7 billion Quebec battery factory that has yet to start construction filed for bankruptcy protection in another blow to Canada’s fledgling EV industry:

The Logic - Northvolt Files For Bankruptcy, Quebec Becomes Last Hope:
	https://thelogic.co/news/northvolt-bankrupt-quebec-canada-factory/

Interestingly, the Wilmot Land Assembly was even mentioned in an article announcing the departure of Wilmot CAO Sharon Chambers:

The Record - Wilmot Township Announces CAO’s Departure:
	https://www.therecord.com/news/waterloo-region/wilmot-township-announces-caos-departure/article_5abed99d-6d34-5146-93cc-139e4357db02.html

Staff turnover at the municipal, regional, and provincial levels is only increasing the chaos surrounding this secretive land assembly scheme that has yet to have a single public meeting. The Wilmot Land Assembly simply needs to be cancelled and abandoned immediately.

Santa Claus Parades - Volunteers are being sought to help decorate tractors and a Fight For Farmland float for area Santa Claus parades. If you are interested in helping and have any experience with float decoration please reach out to: wilmotlandowners at gmail.com <mailto:wilmotlandowners at gmail.com>.

The Baden Santa Claus Parade is November 30th at 12pm, while the New Hamburg Santa Claus Parade is December 1st at 6:00pm.

Upcoming Council Meetings - Join us this coming Monday, November 23rd at the Township of Wilmot where we will have at least one delegation for the Fight For Farmland. Also, plan to join us at the next Region of Waterloo Council meeting on Wednesday, December 11th at 6:30pm where we will have delegations speaking on the Wilmot Land Assembly. If you can add your voice and speak up at either of these upcoming meetings please register to speak with the Wilmot Clerk at clerks at wilmot.ca and/or the Regional Clerk at regionalclerk at regionofwaterloo.ca <mailto:regionalclerk at regionofwaterloo.ca>.

Wilmot Township Council: 60 Snyder’s Road West, Baden - Monday, November 25th - Council Meeting starts at 7:00 pm

Region of Waterloo Council Meeting: 150 Fredrick Street East, Kitchener - Wednesday, December 11th - Council Meeting starts at 7:00pm

Action Required - Please call and write elected officials at Wilmot Township, the Region of Waterloo and the provincial government and tell them to finally abandon this absurd Wilmot Industrial Mega-site location - that we are an UNWILLING community, the landowners have made it clear they are UNWILLING, and a better plan is needed - particularly in light of recent events.

2) Cutting Red Tape, Building Ontario Act - On Wednesday, the province released yet another Red Tape Reduction Act with broad impacts including:

	- changes to agricultural marketing boards,
	- amendments to the Elections Finances Act,
	- dealing with the backlog at the Landlord and Tenant Board,
	- updating the Justice Act,
	- changes to the Expropriations Act,
	- amending the Education Act
	- reducing requirements for brownfield development,
	- removing reporting and barriers for oil spills, excess soils,
	- changes to environmental approvals to stormwater ponds, sewage systems and aggregate washing,
	- changes to the Mining Act,
	- removing barriers to building additional residential units,
	- removing drivers licensing testing for certain large vehicles and RVs,

There seems to be lots to be concerned about and to have to figure out in the weeks and months ahead. Learn more at:

And here’s the official Press Release from Minister Mike Harris Jr:

3) Highway #413, Bradford Bypass, Bike Lanes, and Bill 212 - The Ford government is continuing to ram the “More Highways, Less Bike Lanes Act” through the Legislature this week. It will speed up approval and construction of Highway #413 by removing the environmental assessments despite how negatively the highway will impact the Greenbelt and so much farmland. The new limitations and removal of much-needed bike lanes is equally absurd.

Despite the Ford government fast-tracking this Bill, opposition continues to mount against it. A number of municipalities have now passed motions expressing their opposition to the legislation including the City of Burlington, the Region of Waterloo, the City of Guelph, the City of Toronto, and the Town of Caledon (letter attached below in Section D):

A number of professional associations have also come out against the Bill including the Ontario Professional Planners Institute comment submitted to ERO 019-9266. They oppose the removal of bike lanes in Toronto or any other municipality:

There will be two Public Open House sessions with displays that further explain the project, and Staff will be there to gather feedback and answer questions:

	Date: Wednesday, November 27

The Ford government has put Ontario in an emergency situation that requires an emergency-level response - not business as usual.
