3) Latest Breaking News - Extensive media coverage continues with breaking stories and editorials today. The Editorials running today in the Toronto Star, KW Record, Hamilton Spectator, etc. calls things out very clearly and sets a clear path for the future:
“The government’s response smacks of a cover-up. There has been no effort to right a wrong. That Amato and Clark still have jobs in incredulous. That the Progressive Conservative government is pushing ahead with this flawed Greenbelt development defies belief.
The entire affairs requires an immediate investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police. The Premier will not call a judicial inquiry and the opposition parties don’t have that power, so that only leaves the OPP to find out if this troubled scheme broke any laws.
Hubris leads to downfall. The truth has a way of coming out. There are ongoing investigations into the Greenbelt scandal and a press gallery digging up facts.
Ford’s response to this controversy demeans his government."

Doug Ford has close ties in law enforcement as he does in the development community. Can we expect a fair and competent investigation into the Greenbelt scandal even if police get involved? Margaret Shkimba is skeptical.

What we long suspected in the Greenbelt debacle turns out to be true. Corruption within the Ford government resulted in a golden sweetheart deal for developers despite efforts to gaslight us into believing differently.
Some might try to pass this off as “ooopps, we didn’t know” but the mere suggestion beggars belief. Ford’s assertion that developers aren’t friends flies in the face of their attendance at Ford family events. We have been played, people. Shuffled, cut and dealt a deal from the bottom of the deck by a card shark with aces up his sleeve, queens in his pocket and kings in his hat. Loaded to win.
I watched the news conference with Ford and housing minister Steven Clark. I had to turn it off and take a mini mental health break just to process the manipulation and deceitful tactics used by Ford to justify the corruption unfolding under his watch. But, but, housing, housing, housing. No excuse.
The people who look saw behind the lies from day one. What’s that saying? If it quacks like a duck …
What can we expect from the police? Ford has close connections in the law enforcement sector. Remember the Taverner scandal where family friend Ron had to withdraw from consideration for the top OPP seat because of public outcry and what appeared to be job-jigging? Both developers and police were in attendance at the infamous “stag and dough.” Can we expect an unbiased investigation as though they were dealing with any one of us for a white collar crime?
In case anyone wonders what happens when people lose interest in politics and drop out of voting, this is it.
Only 18 per cent of eligible voters voted for this Conservative government. You know what that tells the government? No one is watching, no one cares, no one has time. The government can do whatever it wants and no one will even notice, never mind bat an eye. Accountability takes a vacation.
The Ford government has been expert as sowing so many (so many!) plots of discord: youth with special needs (always top of the list), people living in poverty, health care, education, housing, every file has been tainted with, if not corruption born from a misguided political ideology, then unbelievable, mind-blowing incompetence at the highest level of the province.

We are exhausted defending our interests from government neglect. Families remain woefully underserved after how many years of begging and pleading for relief? If they won’t help children with special needs, what can anyone expect?
Lie after lie we’ve been told from this government. It began when they rescinded, immediately, the basic income pilot they promised to keep, all the way to promising to protect the Greenbelt with a wink, wink at developers. Just kidding, he told them.
Friends. Ford is not our friend. His acolytes, those who would make excuses and split hairs over who owns what in some kind of attempt to dissuade, are not our friends either. Ford’s “friends” are powerful developers with deep pockets who thumb their noses at the niceties of life like ethics, rules of engagement and conflicts of interest.
The Greenbelt deals cannot be allowed to stand. This government cannot continue status quo. If nothing happens now, nothing will happen the next time and the next time. For we can guarantee that there will be a next time. Because this isn’t the first time.
There must be a criminal investigation. Ford, Clark and Ryan Amato, Clark’s chief of staff, must resign. We cannot have such gross incompetence running the show. A new election must be called. This is monumental to our future.
We are at a crossroads in our politics where ethics, good judgment and integrity have been tossed out the window while corruption, greed and dishonesty settles down at the dining table for a lavish dinner, all at our expense. This has to stop.
