|  Hi Louisette,   Join the wave of support on August 16th, the 7th annual #WeAreLakeErie day 
>From Pelee Island to The Peace Bridge, Lake Erie gives us so much. It provides drinking water for millions of people, beautiful vistas and a place for rich ecosystems to thrive. It also sustains the many shoreline and Indigenous communities that depend on it, supporting food production, livelihoods, healing and more. 
 
Yet, this is all at risk! This spectacular Great Lake faces some persistent and destructive threats — climate change, deforestation, and toxic chemicals to name a few. 
 
One of the most significant threats is phosphorus pollution that runs off from farmlands when it rains, creating annual toxic algae blooms that suffocate aquatic life and contaminate drinking water. This summer, heavy July rainfall and record-high temperatures mean the bloom is already moderate and could still grow more severe.  
 
The reality is Lake Erie is on the verge of a tipping point. It needs our love and immediate attention. On August 16th, #WeAreLakeErie day, we’re calling on everyone to share how Lake Erie has touched their lives. 
 
We invite you to share your own special connection to Lake Erie, amplifying the message that this Great Lake is worth protecting.

   - Post your photos, videos, stories and memories on social media with the hashtag #WeAreLakeErie. Don’t forget to tag @envirodefence
