[All] Reminder: ROP Deadline and Pop-Up Rally Today!

Hi GREN folks,

A quick reminder of two things today:

1) Regional Official Plan Public Feedback Deadline - today is the final day to get your comments and feedback to Regional Staff on the future that you would like to see in our 30 year growth and development plan.  Please speak up for Community Proposed Option #4, climate change goals, and no farmland loss. 2) The Pop-Up Rally will be held at Bingeman’s at 7:00pm - tell Doug Ford directly your concerns and join with others protesting on Bingeman’s Centre Road.  It looks like the nurses are going to be out in force to join with environmentalists, community groups and others to send a strong message.  Details are below.

1) Regional Official Plan - This coming Friday, May 27th is the deadline to get Regional Staff your feedback and comments on the proposed 3 Growth Options proposed for the Regional Official Plan.  As outlined in the document below it is felt that all three options are insufficient and overly complicated.  A 4th Growth Option has been proposed and we hope that you will speak up in favour of it with its simple intensification approach, consistency with the Smart Growth path we are already on, and no farmland loss.

Regional Staff are expected to present a preferred Growth Option at their June 15th meeting which could either be a progressive option like #3 or #4 with intensification and no farmland loss or a a regressive option resulting in thousands of acres of farmland destroyed forever.  We all need to speak up for the best possible outcomes - particularly if we are to meet any of our climate change goals.

We are in the final week of the provincial election campaign that will determine the future of our province and if we are likely to achieve pending climate change targets.  Let Doug Ford know that we cannot continue to destroy the environment and ignore the climate crisis:

Environment, Healthcare, Education, Housing…
(other parties welcome to set up areas for their volunteers to sign wave)

This is your invitation to attend the “Pop-up Protest”
At the entrance to Bingemens 
425 Bingemans Centre Dr, Kitchener

Invite your members/community and use this time to hand out flyers, lawn signs, and get petitions signed.

Remember to also reach out to the media to let them know that you will be attending this grassroots rally and why we should not be enduring another 4 years with a FORD government.

This “No More FORD Rally” is a grassroots initiative being pulled together by community groups and citizens from across Waterloo Region.

On Friday, May 27th at 8pm, the Conservatives will be holding a large rally at Bingeman’s Conference Centre and Doug FORD could be attending.

We are organizing a Pop-up Protest.

Come out between 7:00 - 8:30 PM and show everyone that we do not want another FORD government.
Groups focused on the environment, healthcare, education, housing and more will be expressing their concerns. 

Bring your signs, noise makers, and voices
Attend to pick up lawn signs, grab a handful of flyers, sign a petition, or talk with other local groups.
Make a difference in the 2022 election by coming together and speaking up in this final week of the campaign.

The election is only 1 week away.  There is a huge need to volunteer for the local candidate most likely to win against the Conservative candidate in your riding.
