Please join me now in asking SteveClark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to decline therequest of Cambridge City council for a Minster’s Zoning Order (MZO)for a mega warehouse/distribution centre.

Developers, municipal councils andthe Ontario government are misusing Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) tofast-track development on protected areas, natural areas andfarmland.

MZOs remove the public’s right tobe consulted about a development or to appeal a project. 

MZOs are meant for situations ofextraordinary urgency. 

However, since the current Ontariogovernment took office, they have issued over 40 MZOs - more than theprevious 15 years combined.

 TheseMZOs are being issued under the cover the pandemic while Ontarians arerightfully distracted, and almost none of them could reasonably beargued to be contributing to the fight against Covid-19. 

 Mostrecently, an MZO request has been issued by the City Council ofCambridge in support of a mega warehouse/distribution centre -1,000,000 sq ft - and an additional 1,000,000 sq ft of parking lot, inan area surrounded by two provincially significant wetlands, twocreeks and the Grand River, and with an historicaldesignation.

Please send an email to MinisterClark now asking him to decline this MZO request, and instruct theCity of Cambridge to return to a democratic and regular planningprocess for development at this site.
