 My letter to the Ministries.
My view: Releasing Chukar partridges into the wild in Canada is an unnecessary risk for flora and fauna. We need to put protection of localized biodiversity as a top priority.

 Hello everyone
The Chukar partridge my kid and I saw in Colombia Forest made the news along with several other sightings in the region happening in Westvale, East bridge by RIM Park, Driftwood School,  Landcaster &Clifton Rd. etc.
Ryan Norris a prof at the dept. of Integrative Biology at U of Guelph said it's naïve to think they can't survive in Ontario because they're being found in both winter and summer months now. The day we saw we were still had frost and two degree temps. Poultry breeding sites online say these are cold hearty birds.

Joy Huggins who runs an area wildlife rehab had a pair brought in this year. She brought them to an area Hobby Farm. Being found in pairs doesn't bode well.

The article notes how they are being bred and sold locally. Eggs $10 a dozen, Chick costs $4 and adult $12.50 with discount for orders over 100.

This website featuring the range of the bird in North America shows how the bird has spread invasively in the US and into BC. The data is from Cornell University.

My view, it is best to take a precautionary approach and ban the release of these birds locally, provincially and federally.
Thank you kindly for your time.
