Agreed- it would be huge loss to lose our daily newspaper The Record- in our household it gets read cover to cover daily. Newspapers unify people – I can see what is going on all over the Region and the world..I know I could “do so digitally” but its not the same – with the paper newspaper, Its all there in front of me –the big overview I can’t get on a screen – the headlines and stories I want to pursue or not – its solid - I can see it all- no scrolling, no searching, no missing what you didn’t know was there because you didn’t see it. When you’re 69 and you’ve been raised in print, its just not the same to see little bits at a time on a screen, that sometimes disappear or move or get blocked. Its just not as good if you ask me.

I totally agree Greg. We don’t want to become a community like Guelph that has lost its newspaper. There is still an important role for reporters, community information, letters to the editor, and the ensuing conversations that just don’t happen in other mediums.
How best are we to proceed? Is there someone who can draft an initial version of the a letter that we could then help edit?
Cheers,
Kevin.

I think we're faced with an emergency: Torstar has just been sold for a song to two big time business guys who are taking it private. Torstar owns the Record. I fear that they may view their smaller newspapers, like the Record, as impediments to fattening their personal purses - they are already talking about digitizing the Star.
I'm impressed with how much the Record has improved in the last few months. I think GREN needs to draft a letter to these two big heavyweights to show how important the Record is for keeping us well informed in Waterloo Region.
We need to act now.
