I wanted to provide some feedback on Covid 19.
Overall I am disappointed at how the Ford Government is negating to behave responsibly towards Ontario residents. They are pushing for the widen the 401 while negating both Covid 19 and the Climate Crisis. To go from a 6 lane width to 10 lanes will destroy farmlands and primary recharge in the Paris Galt Moraine area. The gravel would likely come from the Pits located in the Waterloo Moraine. This would depleting out local groundwater and farmland in perpetuity while promoting more cars in the age of the climate change crisis which is a step in the wrong direction. I was in the room when Cambridge declared a climate emergency then bumped it up to a unanimous vote to declare it a climate crisis.
We need to move people not cars. It would be wiser to facilitate free public transit on the GO trains and buses to and from Toronto than to build a new highway. We could offset cars, reduce pollution without the need to build new infrastructure. The gas savings for employees is a fiscal stimulus.  They wouldn't have to drive to go to so we would see less cars on the road.
Since Mr.Ford scrapped the Environmental Bill of Rights, the public lacks the ability to comment. The man keeps giving approvals like a fascist government without debate, white paper or reasonable consultation and this has to stop. If society is shut down all new approvals for infrastructure should be too unless it is specific to addressing either the climate emergency or Covid 19. His push to expand a highway only serves to increase food and water insecurity. There really is no public benefit to be found in this rubbish. Our food sector is far more valuable than that. Gravel pits or roads. If we mess up our moraines or farmlands the fiscal loss is permanent.

The Source Water Act only protects well heads.  It doesn't protect the actual recharge zones feeding water to those wells. The laws were influenced by Stantec who finds the GRCA and who makes money re-mediating our contamination issues and who also stands to profit from a lack Erie pipeline scheme. I have won an OMB process against them. My experts made they sign off on the fact their work was both incomplete and insufficient. I have stopped many projects involving their work which was repeatedly flawed. Their test times and methods are highly flawed. They avoid spring thaw, their bore holes are too shallow or too few and they lack regard for offsite impacts onto sensitive protected lands. I won  OMB case PL071044 because I proved water flows downhill.
Clearly our municipalities are the ones who will need more help.  We need a provincial rent subsidy program to help our local business cope with Covid 19. Many local jobs and many families rely on this
I also want to see Ontario test people for Covid 19 more and we need race based and economic data included for review so we can better understand who is at risk and how we can better protect vulnerable populations.
Many people who lack internet or who are elderly watch TV and read news for information but the problem is when the President is giving potentially harmful recommendations and exhibiting risky behaviors regarding Covid 19, the need is there for Canada to provide clear captions to warn vulnerable Canadians when information being broadcasted is not consistent with the recommendations of the Canadian Medical Association. We are a sovereign nation. We have the inherent right to protect the public, particularly the elderly, mentally vulnerable or the young. When people see other people ignoring rules they are more likely to do the same so make the warning clear when videos focus on information that may trigger non compliant behaviour regarding Covid 19.
My child is currently being home schooled in Waterloo. For her the format works fine. She is at Sir John A Macdonald school where they were given laptops in September so she's having no issues with that. We have internet for my husband's work so we adapted swiftly. The thing I worry about is the impact of cancellation of classes such as Shop, Phys Ed, Nutrition & Health, presentation and speaking skills and basically courses that rely on tools and skills training. That is a huge part our economy who will be under serviced of we don't train kids up.  Not everyone has the aptitude for online academics.
They also cancelled courses on presentation / speaking skills, contemporary Indigenous issues and perspectives in global context, and courses on psychology and sociology including one called Dynamics of human relationships /wellness.  We are dealing with a global pandemic. If ever there was a time we should be training kids in psychology and coping mechanisms now is the time to do it. I have no clue why they chose to cut those courses.
Either way, my family has adapted to our situation as best as we could.
So those are my Covid concerns from here for now.
Thanks to the NDP for the phone Townhall on the Covid issue this evening. It inspired this response.
Thanks also to the federal government as well for their leadership on the Covid 19 issue. No bailouts for tax evaders is an excellent policy that I strongly support but we need transparency on beneficial ownership to truely make sure our economic system is running ethically and is held accountable for their actions.
I hope to see the federal government provide more municipal supports in the days ahead. Our local governments could use the help as do out medical staff with the masks etc.
Thanks
