Last Wednesday the Board of the Wellington Water Watchers approvedan initiative we call the People’s Water Tribunal. The Peoples’ WaterTribunal will convene a panel of experts to hear public testimony anddeliver a public decision on the question: Should Ontarioissue permits to take water for bottling to Nestlé and other privatecorporations?

I am writing to you today to invite you to join withus on Saturday March 7, from 1-4pmfor a planning and implementation meeting of thePeople's Water Tribunal. The meeting will be on the 4th floorat 42 Carden Street in Guelph. The public launch of the People's WaterTribunal will be in April - so we are keeping thisconversation between supporters and allies for now.

The Peoples’ Water Tribunal will accept submissions from expertsand the public on arguments for and against Ontario’s policy ofissuing permits to take water for bottling.

The People’s Water Tribunal will have five phases of activity:
   
   - Organization of Tribunal (Feb/March) with public launch inApril
   - Preliminary hearings to gather information on impacts of waterbottling (April/July) Information gathered throughthe hearings will be made available online. 
   - Preparation of findings for review by Tribunal members(August)
   - Public Tribunal Session to hear testimony and deliver a publicdecision (September)
   - Publicity of Tribunal’s decision (Oct/Nov)

The concluding Public Tribunal Session will be held in Guelph,Ontario in September 2020. Event location will be announced inApril.

Theattached memo provides more info on the purpose of thePeople’s Water Tribunal, provides a brief background on Nestlé watertaking for bottling and gives a summary outline of the activities ofthe People’s Water Tribunal.
