Hi folks
We faced the topic before and here we go again.
The Ford Government is looking into amagalmation of several Ontario communities and Waterloo Region is on the list.
CBC coverage here and it notes that former Waterloo Regional chair Ken Seiling is on a panel regarding this.https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-regional-government-review-1.4978949
We faced the issue previously and in the attachment was a letter by Prof. Emeritus Emil Frind written years back speaking on this issue in a letter to council.
I'm digging out my old info on the subject too. I advise others do the same if you can. Big concern I have is that bigger communities make for bigger contract jobs but rule out smaller local bidders who are often cheaper than the big players. This raises the risk of bigger delays and cost over runs with less competition. It could be viewed as an anti competitive move by the Province against smaller contractors. Would this move remove council members or the number of MPs or MPPs with an amagalmated model? Would it strength or weaken our democratic voice? Lots of issues.
Lulu
