[All] OMB Appeal -- Northgate lands

Hi everyone:

On November 6th at 10:00 am, there will be an OMB pre-hearing held in the
City of Waterloo council chambers that will address planning issues re: the
Northgate/Kartway proposals for west Waterloo that have not received
approval from both the City and Region of Waterloo.  Plans can be found

In particular, we are concerned about an open field that is surrounded by
forest that the owners would like to develop into condo units. Even though
this very special Environmentally Sensitive Policy Area (ESPA) including a
narrow laneway to the field were designated ESPA 80, it did not stop the
owners/tenants from clear cutting and effectively widening the entrance
over time.  The developers are now proposing a private roadway through ESPA
80 to provide access to their gated-community-style condo plan.  To make
matters worse, the developers intend to keep ESPA 80 in private ownership
which is unacceptable considering their past actions.

I have attached two presentations that were made to City council by Sean
McCammon and Kevin Thomason to give you an idea of our concerns.  (Sean
McCammon's slides show before and after pictures of the laneway.)

The public is invited; so if you can attend, it would be great to have some
bums in the seats to show the adjudicator that there is considerable
interest within the City of Waterloo and across the Region for the
protection of this threatened environmentally sensitive area.
