Hi folks
Canadian Geologists tweeted an article that was originally published in the Globe and Mail on June 2017. It features an interview with David Miller the President of World Wildlife Fund Canada. He states the following:
"We don't know the facts," said David Miller, president of World Wildlife Fund-Canada, the environmental advocacy organization that conducted the assessment."It's a recipe for inaction."Mr. Miller added that spotty and unco-ordinated monitoring coupled with the widespread image of a pristine Canadian wilderness has left the country ill-prepared to track and respond to the growing pressures that its aquatic ecosystems are now facing. It also notes....
David Schindler, one of Canada's most highly regarded freshwater scientists and a professor emeritus at the University of Alberta, said the assessment highlights the problems that stem from Canada's lax regulation of its freshwater assets.

"We need standards, not guidelines, with some penalties for non-compliance," he said.
Full article is here: https://flipboard.com/@flipboard/-eight-views-of-canadas-water-woes/f-b506e2bce2%2Ftheglobeandmail.comThis is the link to First National Assessment of Canada's Watersheds report as produced by the WWF:http://assets.wwf.ca/downloads/WWF_Watershed_Reports_Summit_FINAL_web.pdf?_ga=2.247247181.891394252.1497266572-984777005.1497266572So while we have the Ontario Greenbelt decision in the works, I wanted to ask is there a coordinated federal movement underway to push for the implementation of a Federal Water Act that the Harper Government Promised in his first throne speech.in 2011?  Is there any data to show how much money was allocated for that goal and what groups are spearheading these issues?
If there are efforts at the Federal Level I'd venture to guess WWF would be involved along with many others but I'd really like to see GREN share the Greenbelt Expansion letter with them because it gives an excellent snapshot of the immediate issues we're facing at the local level. This is valuable data to share widely. I'd like to see the Greenbelt Expansion letter posted on the GREN website so we use the URL to spread the word via social media.
