I was only thinking mainly about the water concerns with this pipeline
project, and the amazing wildlife in the Burrard Inlet and surrounding area
that could be affected ,as well as residents' health. but this report
reminds me there's a whole other huge concern with this project- emissions
created in construction and ongoing while tankers idle ad infinitum etc. It
talks about tunnelling through Burnaby Mtn. right on Simon Fraser University
lands or near them. Has some good detailed maps. So where they've started
construction just lately is on the south shore where the Drummond Hwy. bends
down to meet Hastings, at the Westridge Marine Terminal. I drove by this
area a couple of weeks ago having no idea that construction would be
starting there soon and that that was to be the southern connection point on
the shores of the Burrard Inlet. People have been arrrested there this week
for being out on kayaks protesting. This is at the NW corner of SFU lands.
Sounds like the Mayors of both Burnaby and Vancouver are dead against it,
but the pipeline advocates are so bent on going forward that they're barging
ahead ( no pun intended ) permits or no permits...On my Facebook page I
posted an article about how Kinder Morgan feels the Mayor of Burnaby is
blocking their progress - read the part where some Kinder Morgan executive
met with the Burnaby Mayor and basically told him to not stand in their way
or else. Quite a stand-off happening.
