[All] Links for Immediate Greenbelt Feedback to Government

Good morning,

Thanks to everyone who attended the GREN meeting last night.  As we discussed there is an urgent need to get letters and support urging Greenbelt expansion to Waterloo Region to area politicians and feedback to the provincial government.  This is our best chance to get the essential second layer of Greenbelt protection to reinforce years of local planning initiatives such as the ESL's, ESPA areas, the Protected Countryside, and Countryside Line concept.

The expansion of the Greenbelt into the "Bluebelt" of vulnerable water and hydrology areas identified by more than 100 environmental and community groups would provide the needed protection for climate change, local food, farmland preservation, more complete communities and many other benefits.  In Waterloo Region Greenbelt expansion could simply overlay our existing protections which are based on hydrology reinforcing our Regional Official Plan.

Please respond to Provincial Government Staff by filling out the short comment form on the Proposed Greenbelt and Growth Plan Amendments at: http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Page14851.aspx

Also, please be sure to write, call or talk to our local elected officials (MPP Daiene Vernile, MPP Kathryn McGarry, MPP Mike Harris, MPP Catherine Fife, Chair Ken Seiling, Regional Councillors, etc.) about the need and desire for Greenbelt expansion to ensure that Waterloo is getting the same level of protection as other Toronto area municipalities and that we are not left out a second time.
