This is excellent information. I work with the Grand River Environmental Network working to improve upon sustainable initiatives with the Region of Waterloo to reduce man made infrastructure while supporting natural capital systems for the long term so this information is very much appreciated. We're both working to secure better management of the existing water resources and I'm glad to see it's getting results.  We're on the same track.

 #yiv0379552182 #yiv0379552182 -- p.yiv0379552182MsoNormal, #yiv0379552182 li.yiv0379552182MsoNormal, #yiv0379552182 div.yiv0379552182MsoNormal {margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;font-size:10.0pt;}#yiv0379552182 a:link, #yiv0379552182 span.yiv0379552182MsoHyperlink {color:blue;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv0379552182 a:visited, #yiv0379552182 span.yiv0379552182MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv0379552182 span.yiv0379552182EmailStyle17 {color:windowtext;}#yiv0379552182 .yiv0379552182MsoChpDefault {}#yiv0379552182 filtered {margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in;}#yiv0379552182 div.yiv0379552182WordSection1 {}#yiv0379552182 ENV1283MC-2015-2565    Dear Ms. Lanteigne:    Thank you for your email of October 21, 2015 about how water conservation can reduce carbon emissions, foster climate resiliency and save money.    You will be pleased to learn that Ontario recognizes the importance of conserving water resources.  I am pleased to provide you with some examples of the work being done in Ontario on this issue.    Ontario has adopted water conservation and efficiency goals and objectives, under the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Sustainable Water Resources Agreement.  These goals and objectives are designed to enhance long-term, sustainable water use practices and management.    As of January 2014, the province’s Building Code includes enhanced water efficiency requirements for toilets, urinals and showerheads.  The Ontario Building Code also includes opportunities for innovative adaptation, through expanding the reuse of rainwater and greywater, for example.    Ontario adopted the WaterSense labelling program.  This program helps Ontario families and businesses conserve water and save money by using water-efficient products such as low-flow shower heads and toilets.    We also implemented a program called Showcasing Water Innovation.  This initiative demonstrates leading edge, innovative and cost-effective solutions for managing drinking water, stormwater and wastewater systems in Ontario communities.  Thirty-two projects that foster innovation, create opportunities for economic development and protect water resources were funded.  The results from these projects are being shared for learning and use by all.    In addition, Ontario passed theWater Opportunities Act which, among other things, sets the framework to encourage Ontarians to use water more efficiently by creating and implementing innovative approaches to protecting and conserving water resources for current and future generations.    Most recently, on October 28, 2015, the Ontario government introduced amendments to theGreen Energy Act, 2009.  If passed, the amendments would enable implementation of the Ministry of Energy’s proposed large building energy and water reporting and benchmarking initiative.  This initiative would help Ontario’s large building owners manage their energy and water consumption and save money on their utility bills.    I trust this information is helpful.  Thank you, again, for your interest in and support for water conservation.    Sincerely,    Glen Murray Minister
