			Welcome to the February Community Update.

			 

			The SWR team has been hard at work, supporting programs, projects and the network members who are working towards a more Sustainable Waterloo Region. In this month’s update we share information on our upcoming events, a recent award for the sustainability efforts of our community and news from many of our partners and members.

			 

			Our annual Evening of Recognition is going to be on April 14 this year. Mark your calendar. You do not want to miss it.

			Environmental Politics- Planning for Action: Globally, Nationally, Provincially, and Locally

			
			Environmental politics has increasingly hit the media throughout the last year. Including the COP21 Paris Agreement, Ontario’s Climate Change Strategy and the proposed Ontario cap and trade policy; political action against climate change is taking centre stage.

			

			Join us to learn how these plans are going to impact local organizations and the leadership role that we can play as part of implementing change. Featuring a panel of experts on environmental policy, we will explore these topics in a way accessible to those with minimal current knowledge but also rewarding to those that have been avidly following the headlines. All are welcome.

			This event will include a hot breakfast.

			Regional Carbon Initiative

			CIGI Secures Rank Amongst Top Think Tanks Worldwide

			The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) has been placed amongst the Top Think Tanks Worldwide. They have also listed as one of the top think tanks internationally to watch in 2016 and best independent think tanks internationally. Read more about the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report here

			

			Move-in Day for Stantec into R+T Park 

			Monday February 8th was move in day for Stantec to the innoTECH building in the David Johnston Research + Technology Park in Waterloo. Both are RCI members and have been working closely in the lead up to the move. Read about their LEED Gold certified building here

			 

			ClimateActionWR
			The Climate Action Plan has just been awarded a Sustainable Communities Award from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The award recognizes the leading role ClimateActionWR and its partners (REEP Green Solutions, Sustainable Waterloo Region and the four municipalities) are playing in developing and implementing a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 			Carpool Month February 2016

			

			February is Carpool Month and it's the perfect time to warm up with a carpool buddy on your way to work. Throughout the month, TravelWise has been providing weekly challenges to help you start carpooling and have fun while doing it! #CarpoolMonthWR is not even half-way over and the campaign has already had great results! More than 60 new carpools have been posted on gotravelwise.ca and over 1,000 trips have been logged, representing three tonnes of car saved. Everyone is encouraged to continue participating in weekly challenges. Lots of prizes to be won!
