Leaky Landfill in Waterloo:
The Waterloo Landfill is already beset by problems from leaks of leachate intoAquifer Unit 1 on the southeast side of the landfill (the Southeast Plume) and on thenorthwest side of the landfill (the Northwest Plume).
These leachate leakage rates are the equivalent of 68,000 to 346,000 liters of leachate perhectare per year, which the Region’s own imperfect calculations show would be leakingthrough the liner and into Aquifer Unit 1 if this proposal is approved. If a more reasonablecalculation were done, then estimated leachate leakage rates would be much higher.
