On April 14th, the  the heads of Canada’s provinces and territories will meet in Quebec City to discuss one thing: the global climate crisis. On April 11th they will be welcomed by thousands of people from across the country who will send a loud and clear message message: it’s time to Act on Climate.

Buses will be leaving from cities across Canada to take people to Quebec City for this momentous occasion. Will you be there in Quebec City to send this important message to the heads of Canada’s provinces and territories?

2015 is a pivotal year in the fight against climate change. Not only will the upcoming federal election determine Canada’s policy for the foreseeable future, but world leaders are also coming together in Paris for the UN Climate Change Conference.[1]

We all know that the federal government is betting our economy and future on the fossil fuel economy, but on April 14th the heads of Canada’s provinces and territories will meet in Quebec City to discuss one thing: the global climate crisis.[2]

This is why a coalition of groups from across Canada is bringing together thousands of people from across the country for a family-friendly march on April 11th in Quebec City: to let the premiers know that Canadians demand climate leadership.

There are buses leaving from your city and going to Quebec City for this massive march. Over the past few years, the climate movement in Canada has grown deep roots across the country. Together, we have delayed every tar sands pipeline project that has been proposed,  from the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline to the Energy East pipeline and even the Keystone XL project in the US.

These battles have been crucial in slowing down the irresponsible expansion of the fossil fuel industry, but now it’s time to turn the tide and transition to a clean energy future. It’s clear that the federal government has made its bet on the risky boom and bust economy, but the provinces can still take the leadership necessary to turn the tide.

Provinces have taken climate action in the past, from commitments to carbon reduction targets in BC and Ontario to fracking moratoriums in Quebec and New Brunswick.[3,4,5,6] Now we have to make sure the premiers keep their promises and unite in their leadership to address the climate crisis.

We know that a transition to a strong clean energy economy is possible. Last week, 70 scientists released a report showing that Canada can shift to 100% renewable energy by 2035 and reduce our carbon footprint by 80% by 2050.[7] All that we need right now is the political will to make this a reality.
