I agree Deb- Creekside Church had no right or jursidiction to do what they did , intervening in that way, and should face a hefty fine. In an instance like that, you ask for help from people who know how to handle these things - you don't just DIY. Totally impulisve and self-serving without considering the consequences and damage they caused, and religion, as far as I was taught, is supposed to teach us to be protective of the creatures of the earth - I guess they missed that part, as did Stephen Harper!! So sad. Good on you, Lulu and others for working on this. They should be getting water back into that pond asap while they decide what to do -that would be the humane thing to do..the turtles etc. must be having great difficulty without the water there, especailly in these warm temperatures. A pond that had been there for 75 + years must've established a wonderful micro-ecology, as we see by the "before" or "slightly after" pictures", and its such a pity to see it ruined by such a resolvable issue such as some driveway flooding.
Creekside pond pipe draining to stormwater sewe...
Well... if the MOE was told that the new pipe is plugged and no water is draining to the SWM ponds on the east side of the property, then they have been misinformed as I was by the GRCA and the City (see surface water and pond water draining from the pipe in attached video taken July 17/15 two weeks after they started). This video and the attached pictures were sent to the GRCA and the City on Jul 19/15.

Unless they've capped the pipe in the last few days, it is likely that the pond is still being drained and will continue until the GRCA and MTE/Church sort out what to do.

I believe the GRCA are okay with the pond being low in the meantime because historically it has dried up depending on yearly rainfall and temperatures. I checked the aerial photography at the University of Waterloo comparing several years, and as stated by the consultants on the North Waterloo Scoped Subwatershed Study, clearly the wetland has persisted since 1930.

I can appreciate that the GRCA is concentrating on preserving the wetland at this point, and not interested in pointing fingers, but I want to. I want Creekside Church to be held accountable by our community and their church community for this callous, purposeful act. Their decision to drain the pond has likely caused the demise of many of the turtles and frogs that inhabited that pond, including several overwintering Midland Painted Turtles, part of the criteria used to determine whether or not this pond should earn significant amphibian and turtle breeding candidate status.

My concern now is how long will it take to get water back into the pond, and will we agree with what the GRCA considers to be acceptable water levels.

  Very frustrating process.
