>> Leading invasive species expert Dr. Tom Stohlgren will be visiting campus during the first two weeks of March as this year’s TD Walter Bean Professor. Everyone is invited to attend the public lecture (https://uwaterloo.ca/community-relations/events/td-walter-bean-lecture), and participate in the accompanying academic program. Specific events are described below. To help us with catering, please RSVP to Krista Parsons (krista.parsons at uwaterloo.ca) for any sessions you’d like to attend by Wednesday February 25th.
>> Engineering and technological solutions to invasive species brainstorming session
>> Wednesday March 4th, 10:00 a.m. in E5-2004
>> All are invited to join this brainstorming event. This will be an informal discussion on potential engineering and technological solutions to address biological invasions.  Lunch will be served 12:00-1:00 p.m. 
>> Thesis Onesies: Climate change and invasive species
>> Monday March 9th, 2:30 p.m. in DC-1304
>> Join us for a rousing round of Thesis Onesies. Students will present their thesis research relating to climate change and invasive species in one (1) minute using one (1) slide. Audience participation will be encouraged. Following the thesis presentations our intrepid scientific panel will attempt to synthesize the mass of research they have just seen. Refreshments to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the fishbowl (DC-1301)
>> Village 1 Woodlot visit and discussion
>> Wednesday March 11th, 2:00 p.m., starting  in the Environment Ecology Lab (EV1-135). Discussion portion will begin at 4 p.m. in the Grad House
>> During this activity we will discuss and explore the Village 1 woodlot. The Village 1 woodlot is the largest remaining, wooded green space on campus. It harbors a variety of habitats ranging from a cold-water creek to marsh and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest. The woodlot likely contains provincially rare species and exhibits interesting geological features, but currently not much is known about its mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, insect and fungal communities. Unfortunately, the ecological integrity of the woodlot is threatened by invasion of various species including European buckthorn, garlic mustard and goldenrod. This activity will start in the ENV Ecology lab, proceed to the Village 1 woodlot and then move on to the Grad House  at 4:00 p.m. for refreshments.
