The latest email from Toronto Environmental Alliance shows what's happening in Toronto when it comes to Waste Management.
Great way to glean ideas for a Regional Plan.

| In this issue, learn how Toronto's blue and greenbins have been improved and what big steps City Hall took to tackleclimate change over the past few weeks.
| Building a Waste Free TorontoToronto still sends about half of its waste for disposal in alandfill - but we know that we can do much better.City waste audits show that most of what we put out as ‘garbage’ could have beenrecycled or composted instead. In addition to raising waste fees for houses to encourage peopleto downsize their bin, the City announced a few more changes that willhelp get more out of the garbage bag.
NewGreen Bins
Last week, the City ofToronto unveiled new raccoon-proof Green Bins for houses that willwork with automated trucks (& reduce worker injury). Watch how raccoons deal with the original green binversus green bin 2.0!
Moreplastics for Toronto Blue Bins
Starting in June 2015, Toronto residents will be able to recycle a widerrange of plastic bags in the Blue Bin. Thanks to better sortingtechnology, and a growing plastic recycling market, Toronto willcollect bags such as those for fruit, bread, milk, dry cleaning andmore. This will increase the City’s diversion rate and savemoney. Big steps taken on climate changeThis past week, the City’s Parks and Environment Committee adopted two reports that set out what City Hallwill do to make sure we have a state of the art, funded plan forreducing greenhouse gas pollution and getting the city ready for thechallenges climate change will bring. These actions will help City Hall tackle climate change and takeactions in line with TEA's Green Action Agenda. |
