[All] Saturday Update Re: People's Climate March Waterloo

Hi folks


The People's Climate March Waterloo event is coming along nicely. I've got signs being made calling for green energy, green jobs, climate action etc. 

The following individuals have expressed an interest in attending our event with displays and/or speakers including:

Fair Vote Canada; Waterloo chapter contact Jennifer Ross
KW Citizens Climate Lobby with Caterina Lindman
KW Transitions will be involved 
David Suzuki Blue Dot Tour representatives will be there too.

I am also in dialogue with folks from:

Life Co-op
CREW
Canadian Physicians for the Environment
Idle No More to discuss impacts of climate change on First Nation's communities. 




The Climate Event will begin at the Waterloo Square with a march that leaves the area round 1:45. We will be marching to the Barrel Yard Park on Father David Bauer Drive where the lectures and displays will be set up.  Less noise and distractions then the square. There is a nice water feature and we're surrounded with trees in a lovely court yard area. I took some google map photos to show the space which can be seen in the attachments. 

The third attachment is a map showing the approximate start area by the Bell in Waterloo Square. It shows the route of the march (and short cut for late comers or folks who want to skip the march portion).  It helps to have a kid who's good with computers to help make things like this.

In the attachments is a draft copy of the speech I will present.  If Life co-op wants to present  I'll modify the speech accordingly to let them relay their wonderful efforts. 


I'm structuring this event without mentioning Harper or Tar Sands because I have noticed that these are trigger words. It's like structuring a debate. If you make a personal attack, it gives the right for opposing forces to have their say in response. I'm avoiding those words because I honestly do not want to use this event to give them any more air time.

If GREN or other groups would like to set up a table or do a presentation at the event for a 5-10 minute window just let me know.
