GRCA Flood Message #1
- Flood Warning for Conestogo River (St. Jacobs) and Southern Grand River
- Flood Watch issued for the Grand River
Heavy rainfall overnight across the northern half of the watershed has triggered runoff to water courses across the watershed. Rainfall amounts between 25 and 60 mm occurred Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning. River levels in watercourses throughout the watershed are rising at this time with the exception of local, urban watercourses, which have already peaked. It is anticipated that watercourses will be at near bank full levels for the next couple of days. Some low-lying areas along rivers could experience flooding, but there is no threat to communities.
Flood Warning (Action) Message
Conestogo River in St. Jacobs
Township of Woolwich staff are requested to maintain closure of the low level bridge upstream of St. Jacobs. The low level bridge is expected to remain closed until Sunday.
Flood Warning (Action) Message
Southern Grand River Trailer Parks
County of Haldimand staff are requested to warn trailer parks in the southern Grand River from Caledonia to Dunnville. Flooding of the trailer park sites immediately adjacent to the river can be expected. Flows in the Caledonia area are expected to peak in the 380 m3/s range. Flows downstream of York are expected to peak in the 420 m3/s range. River levels are expected to peak through Brantford at midnight Thursday, through Caledonia and York at noon Friday, through Cayuga early Friday evening and through Dunnville early Saturday morning. Flows will remain high in the southern Grand River through the weekend.
Water Safety Message
Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are slippery and when combined with cold, fast-moving water pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses. Recreational river users such as anglers, canoeists and kayakers should be aware of the higher flows. Tubing in the Elora Gorge Park will remain closed until flows decline. Check the GRCA Newsroom for tubing status.

This message will be in effect until Sunday, September 14th. Updates will be issued as warranted.
