Explosive new report released by Environmental Defence today focuses on water use and Tarsands. Here are some of the highlights:

	* 11 million litres of toxic tar sands waste leak into Athabasca River & watershed. Basic water monitoring is notably absent in the Tar Sands.
	*  Not one single Tar Sands company was in compliance with Alberta’s Directive 074 to accelerate cleaning tailings pond cleanups.

	* The tar sands create 250 million litres of toxic waste — every day.

	* Basic water monitoring is notably absent in the Tar Sands

	* More than 95% of the water drawn from the Athabasca River and used in tar sands operations is too toxic to return to natural cycle.

	* No enforced limits for water taking from Athabasca River even if water is getting too low to support the life!

	* Tailings lakes can cover an area 50 per cent bigger in size than the City of Vancouver

	* The tar sands create 250 million litres of toxic waste — every day.

	* Environment Canada scientists confirmed toxins in Athabasca, but were prevented from talking to public & media

	* Plan to triple tar sands production by 2030 will increase fresh water use by 170%.

Also from Alberta, the Cold Lake Spill may actually date back from a 2009 leak that took place. The two areas of the fluid discoveries are connected by way of the same vertical fracture. It might actually be the same link. Folks are not sure if it is. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/carol-linnitt/report-cold-lake-bitumen-_b_3959348.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

And from the US, a new report was released showing how oil quadrupled in price over the last decade contributing to significant debt. The report also states if the US could cut oil use for transportation in half over the next 30 years they could cut their national debt by $5 trillion dollars from 2014 to 2040. Going oil free has it's perks.

Have a good one everybody.
