While not quite environment related below is the link to an interesting TEDTalk by Janette Sadik the transportation commissioner for New York City that shows some very simple and interesting things that New York City is doing to improve transit, cycling, walking, and create complete communities often with just paint and other very cost effective means:

It is well worth the few minutes that it takes to watch the video.  Hopefully, there is good learning and inspiration for our community here - particularly as the City of Waterloo is undertaking meetings on the redesign of King Street, etc.
