[All] NEB looking for public input regarding oil pipeline safety

The National Energy Board has a discussion paper to describe proposed changes to improve and streamline NEB regulations for preventing damage to oil pipelines. They are looking for public comments on ways to prevent spills.  Interested parties are invited to send comments in writing on or before Monday, 11 February 2013.

Some issues that could be raised include:

Climate change issues related to structural integrity issues.

Risks of unmarked abandoned wells and potential for deep aquifer contamination

The need to update and regulate monitoring practices.

The need to improve response times and protocols

The need to improve preliminary baseline EA data.
