Quick correction. The Liberal race is over so I've modified the text sent to me  to form a new template letter to the Premier.

Either way, the more support we can lend them the better for all of us working to protect farmlands and water.

Hi everyone

The folks who organized NDACT have started a new group called Food and Water First.

This is their facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/no.mega.quarry
They have just under 6,000 followers there.

They are on Twitter @FoodWaterFirst
They have over 3,000 followers currently.

They have a new Action Alert. Basically copy the text and send to the email list to support a food and water first policy for Ontario.

Details below

As the new Premier of Ontario. You'll be facing many challenges, and among them will be a critical
issue stemming from the recent fight to stop the proposed Highland mega
quarry north of Shelburne. As you know, it was slated to become the
largest quarry in Canadian history, on the best farmland in the province and at the headwaters of five river systems. Thousands of Ontarians
banded together to oppose the mega quarry and, while successful in
defeating the project, they also discovered many flaws in the Aggregate
Resources Act and Provincial Policy Statement. Quite simply, our vital
prime agricultural lands and water resources are vulnerable and they
need protection.

I am one of those who fought the mega quarry
and am deeply concerned about the lack of a Food and Water First policy
in Ontario. This province's agri-food sector is the largest in Canada
and pours $33-billion into our economy each year. It employs about
700,000 people and, according to a study from the University of Guelph,
has become "the single most important economic driver in the province."
Yet, the very agricultural land that sustains this industry, its jobs
and our well-being is under constant threat.

Ontario is home
to the rarest farmland in Canada. It is a natural, strategic and
perpetual resource, but every year 127-thousand acres of our farmland is
lost. According to the Ontario Farmland Trust, the province could lose
its food self-sufficiency within 25 years. This will not only impact our
food security, but will also cause tremendous damage to a thriving
industry and Ontario's economy.

As Premier of Ontario, I
encourage you to support a Food and Water First policy for this
province. Our prime farmland and source water regions must be protected.
Tens of thousands of people who stopped the mega quarry will be working
towards a Food and Water First policy. I hope you will stand with us.

Sincerely,
