Hi everyone

The PC's are introducing a provincial bill next Thursday to ban wind farms from the Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine area. This is dangerous because wind farms could be used to prevent pits and sprawl.

The letter I've sent to provincial officials is below for your reference along with a link to this bill. Check it out.

Subject: Regarding PC's Bill 39

Dear Hon. Ministers

Next week, next Thursday afternoon,  the province will be debating the new anti-renewable energy bill from the PC’s, Bill 39 - http://www.ontla.on.ca/bills/bills-files/40_Parliament/Session2/b039.pdf

The bill effectively ends the Green Energy Act, gives municipalities the
power to outlaw conservation investment. It would prohibit the placement of windmills along the Greenbelt and the Oak Ridges Moraine area.

I agree that not every location is suitable for windmills. Site specific considerations still must be given to protect rare species etc.  but to prohibit them outright throughout the entire Oak Ridge's Moraine and the Greenbelt is clearly not acceptable in my view.

Currently there are many international land grabs that are taking placeby foreign investors who are buying up thousands of acres of farmland throughout Ontario,  particularly around the Grand River Watershed. Speculators and developers know they can't place a quarry pit, a mega dump or sprawl over top areas with windmills and I fear they may be pushing this new bill forth to use the lands in an unsustainable manner to exploit water and gravel resources or to facilitate sprawl.

We need to protect our ability to place these windmills where areas are appropriate in order to reduce emissions and fossil fuel dependency while protecting our long term food and water security for the generations to come. If wind farms can curb sprawl and protect aquifers from quarry pits and other non sustainable land uses, we need to keep that option open.  Do not support Bill 39.

Thank you kindly for your time.
