[All] Fw: [CANDAC Info] I would like to help save PEARL

FYI - PEARL is Canada's main climate change research station located in Northern Canada and they require funding of 1.5 million to continue. The Tories have denied them renewed funding and now they are set to close unless public support can change their fate. I've contacted the research station to see how I could help. Below is the response.

Please write your MP to ask to keep PEARL funded and if you can donate, it will demonstrate the public support.

Thanks!

Thank you for your interest and expressions of support for the PEARL station. This is a very difficult time and any support is appreciated.
As far as financial support is concerned, I would invite you to consider a donation to the Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (www.cfcas.org) who have been vigorous supporters of PEARL over many years. They would be happy to route funds to activities in support of PEARL.
One of the questions we frequently get asked is: “Who does PEARL benefit?” and when we answer that the research is of benefit to all Canadian citizens and indeed to the whole world, the next issue is how that support is expressed.
It is easier to document support for research that benefits a company or industry (get the CEO to write a support letter) than it to document support for research of broader significance.
So I would invite you to show your support of PEARL by writing to your MP, the Prime Minister and Minister Kent and let them know how you feel. When we lobby government as scientists, we are often dismissed as "interested parties". When others lobby it has much more effect.

You
can locate your MP's information at: http://www.canada.gc.ca/directories-repertoires/direct-eng.html.

The Prime Minister is at:

and Minister Kent can be reached at:
The Honourable Peter Kent

Thank you again for your interest in PEARL. We have not given up on this jewel of Canadian research.
