Would be interesting to see if we could have an event for this week where people log their water use for that week. i.e flushed the toilet 5 x day = 30 litres (with 6 litre low volume flushers) then have some sort of award ceremony and speakers etc to get some perspective on it.

I’ve probably said this before, but years ago I had a friend from Lebanon. I noticed when he wanted a glass of water, he just filled the glass from the tap and never ran the water until it was cold. I hadn’t realized how wasteful I was until that point.

Anyone interested in doing this? We could set up a webpage where people could log in their usage, get some big local celebrities to participate. Maybe the Region wants to get involved.

Discover your water footprint!Did you know that the average Canadian consumes nearly 6,400 litres of water every day? That's more water than my daily 10 minute shower produces in two months!

This got me thinking about my water consumption. I thought of the 8 glasses of water I drink daily, the number of times I flush the toilet, the leaky faucet in my bathroom sink.

Of course that’s just part of my daily water consumption. Over 90% of the water I consume comes from the choices I make each day in the items I eat, the clothing I wear, and the amount of electricity I use. The water we all consume leaves a footprint, one that can impact our local rivers and lakes, as well as those thousands of kilometres away. For instance, your favourite pair of jeans might have been produced from irrigated cotton fields in the southern United States or even as far away as India!

These days we’re all trying to lessen our impact on the environment by making better choices in our daily lives. That’s why this year’s Canada Water Week theme is "Discover Your Water Footprint."

>From March 19-25 join with us by hosting an event that will inspire questions and discussion on how we use water in so many aspects of our lives—and what we can do to make our water footprint a little smaller.

<http://www.industrymailout.com/Industry/Redirect.aspx?u=474160&q=413167905&lm=39678685&r=334145&qz=539ec52bc0a7fcbca32290b91b8b4b3d> Image removed by sender.

About Canada Water Week

Canada Water Week is a week-long celebration of water from coast-to-coast-to-coast, held annually in the third week of March to coincide with UN World Water Day on March 22. Individuals, organizations and governments across the country are encouraged to get involved by organizing or participating in fun and educational events. Together, we can raise the profile and understanding of water.
