All,
"The point of Gaviotas is not that you should come to it, but that
you should adopt its spirit wherever you are."
Many of the utra-sustainable technologies created in Gaviotos could
help enhance social innovation projects in the more "advanced" World
at very low cost -- creating new jobs and their attendant skills --
especially in low-income communities within our large cities, on many
First Nations reserves, .. .
Here are some related references that I hope all of you (at least)
social innovators will find useful (combined with complementary
healthy-food-producing Solar Greenhouses such as with http://books.google.ca/books/about/Solar_greenhouses_underground.html?id=QWolAQAAMAAJ&redir_esc=y
& http://geodesic-greenhouse-kits.com/ ):
"If you drive east out of Bogatá, Colombia into the easternllanos of
the Vichada province -- and you manage to avoid the paramilitary
government troops and the guerillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces
of Colombia (FARC) who regularly battle in this empty place -- you
will come across a small village of roughly 200 people. They'll give
you a free meal, and if you ask they might show you their
revolutionary designs for power-collecting windmills, solar heating
systems," Worldchanging: Bright Green: Gaviotas

Related note: This village is also very much in the spirit of the work
of British economist EF Schumacher as represented in his book "Small
Is Beautiful" and in his mid-century Intermediate Technology Movement
(Appropriate Technology in US).
