Hey everyone! Sorry for sending so many emails the past few days but I just want to get those interested up to speed with the latest tar sands news! 

This spring, the National Energy Board is hosting a joint review panel to investigate whether Enbridge (the same company that is proposing the Northern Gateway pipeline) can reverse the flow of an existing pipeline that runs through Southern Ontario. Enbridge wants to reverse the flow so that the oil would travel from Sarnia to Montreal. What this means is that the pipeline could potentially carry corrosive tar sands oil coming in from the west. Line 9 was built in 1975, and we don't know whether or not the pipeline could handle the greater sulphur content of tar sands oil. This is a crucial issue, as the pipeline runs through sensitive agricultural land, as well as numerous watersheds draining into the Great Lakes. The full reversal would also allow tar sands bitumen access to refineries on the east coast of the US, helping to expand the tar sands market.

I strongly encourage you to fill out this email message to the National Energy Board. ALL RESPONSES WILL BE FAXED TO THE NATIONAL ENERGY BOARD OF CANADA. This means that it counts as an official Letter of Comment, which are due April 23rd. It will take seconds, so please take the time to do it!
