Good evening,
With a provincial election pending that could result in significant negative environmental policy changes it is extremely important that voters are well informed and aware of the implications of their voting (or lack of voting).
Some important websites and information to check out are:
Ontario's Energy Future - Sustainable Waterloo and the David Suzuki Foundation team up on a detailed report on the parties positions on energy - http://bit.ly/qyqtNQ
Green Prosperity - a website assembled by more than 20 groups detailing the priorities and promises of each provincial party - http://www.greenprosperity.ca/
Moraine Can't Wait - a website providing an overview of the threats and opportunities facing the Provincial Greenbelt - http://www.morainecantwait.ca/home/
Additional information is also below from the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance.
Despite the fatigue of two elections and two referendums already in the past year, please be sure to get involved and make sure that we get the right people and parties in office during this provincial election so that we don't see years of progress overturned and we aren't spending the next four years regretting not doing more now while we have a chance to positively influence things to ensure the best possible future.
Kevin.

>
> Check out a platform comparison on environmental issues based on questionnaires given to the parties and/or information from party platform materials. The comparison was put together by The Green Prosperity Initiative, a combined effort of 19 Ontario environmental organizations. Questions asked include whether the parties support the expansion of the Greenbelt, as well as local food procurement. Answers can be found here.

> This election it’s time to get pantsuit serious about the environment, and the Greenbelt! Meet Penelope, an 8-year old ‘candidate’ touring Ontario with Environmental Defence, asking the public to think about her future when they vote on October 6th. Penelope is campaigning for clean air and water, greener energy and the Greenbelt (because she loves its peaches, radishes and parks among other things). Visit her website penelope4ontario to check out her videos, take her pledge and follow her adventures on the campaign trail.

> The Oak Ridges Moraine: Protected or Neglected?
>
> Earthroots, Save the Oak Ridges Moraine (STORM), and Ontario Nature are pleased to announce, on the 10th anniversary of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act, the launch of the Moraine Can't Wait campaign. The Moraine Can't Wait campaign is designed to bring attention to the serious issues confronting the Moraine that can't wait to be addressed at the 2015 review of the Conservation Plan. These include commercial fill operations, water-taking, infrastructure, transitional applications and barriers to sustainable livelihoods.

> Visit www.morainecantwait.ca for more information about the issues and to send a letter or fax to party leaders and candidates about the Moraine!

> Be sure to ask the candidates where they stand on the Greenbelt!

> Quick speaking points:
> At 1.8 miliion acres, Ontario’s Greenbelt is the world’s largest and most diverse Greenbelt.
> It helps us curb costly and polluting urban sprawl and protect valuable farmland, watersheds and greenspace.
> Questions to ask:
> What is your current position on the Greenbelt?
> Will your party work with municipal and regional governments to expand and strengthen the Greenbelt?
> Will your party help strengthen the local food system in the Greenbelt and across Ontario by increasing purchases of sustainably grown local food by schools, hospitals and other provincial institutions?
> Will your party support economic development in rural Ontario by supporting regional food processing facilities rather than penalizing farm-based food processors?
> What will your party do to limit unnecessary infrastructure like highways that cut through the Greenbelt?
> DONATE NOW
> Help Environmental Defence create a world Canadians are proud to pass on to their children.
