Subject: CoC Guelph - Update on Ottawa Pipeline Protest
Hello all, Message from OPIRG being forwarded re the Ottawa pipeline protest.
Anyone who wants to be a part of Group A --who are going to participate in the training, needs to contact Kat MacGregor, macgregorkatherine at gmail.com. Scroll down for Group A updates too!
First of all EVERYONE NEEDS TO CONFIRM WITH US via e-mail ASAP which group you are hoping to travel with (Group A - leaving 25th, Group B -- 26th only support protest) and an estimate of how much you feel you can donate to expenses. We are asking for contributions on a "sliding scale" from $15-$50.
Group B UPDATES-- People participating in the supporting protest on September 26th.
DEPARTURE TIMES UPDATE
PLEASE NOTE: Change in departure time from Ottawa!
Just needed to let you all know that because of timelines related to bus regulations the bus will be departing at 2am on Monday the 26th and leaving Ottawa at 5pm. We were hoping to be able to leave Ottawa at 4pm but this would not ensure enough time for the driver to rest.
The bus has now been booked. There are a total of 56
spaces available on the bus.
DEPARTURE LOCATIONS:
1) The UC bus Loop with AYR Bus Lines
2) Tim Hortons 28 Wellington St E
We are looking for affinity group leaders! --- Hey folks, are you familiar with Ottawa? Do you feel comfortable talking to people? Please let us know opirg at uoguelph.ca or at the Friday meeting if you are willing to be a key contact for a small group of folks (10). This is one of the strategies to help keep people safe at the protest on the 26th.
GROUP A UPDATES - For Those Looking to Leave on the 25th
We have been contacted by another group in Peterborough who are interested in potentially renting a bus for both areas. This is highly dependent on how many people from Guelph are interested in taking part in Sunday’s training for the civil disobedience.
It is even more important for this group to contact Kat
ASAP to get a better idea of the possibilities of a bus
rental.
EVERYONE planning to participate in this part of the protest need to register with ottawaaction.ca and attend the training on September 25th.
NEXT MEETING
Friday September 23, 2011, 1:30pm at the OPIRG Office, 1 Trent Lane (behind Creelman at College)
At this meeting we will talk about the finalized plans for travelling to Ottawa, do some very basic training on participating in protests and get a chance to discuss and concerns.
If You Cannot Come To The Meeting but still want to go to Ottawa YOU MUST:
o Bring your $ to OPIRG before Friday to hold your spot
o Pick-up your Protest Safety info
QUICK REMINDER
This Wednesday from 11:15ish-5:00pm we will be setting up our Anti Keystone XL Pipeline Tent in Branion Plaza outside the UC to spread awareness for the cause and get some more people to sign up for the bus.
Bring your friends and tell people!
