Hi folks

Saturday Oct 29th, we're doing an Occupy event at Waterloo square starting at 1pm. Guest speakers followed with a walk to First United Church is planned.  I'm working on securing some guest speakers for the opening portion by the Waterloo Square.  I've approached retired economics professor Franklin Ramsoomair, and Human Rights advocate Judith Lodi to be of assistance to address economic and social impacts of the Occupy movement. Now I'm looking for someone to represent the environmental component.

Environmental concerns are a high priority for many of these folks and it could be a great way for GREN to reach out and do some public relations work to invite the broader community to learn and discuss issues such as the Lake Erie Pipeline or our provincial growth targets, etc.  Many people are not aware of these issues currently but this venue allows us to get the word out. We can invite the people to get involved with Gren and with planning processes.  Allocated speaking time is 5 minutes give or take. If anyone is interested in being a speaker for this event, please get intouch.

After this event, there will be a workshop at First United Church Waterloo at 16 William St. from 2-4 facilitated by Jean Robertson of Resilient Waterloo. Our objective is to allow the public to voice their issues/values/concerns and brainstorm ways to help craft solutions so we can take the energy of the Occupy movement and move it into direct action via  recommendations for policies, programs etc.

Thanks everybody!

Lulu
