Hi All,
Some of you will have seen this already.... sorry for the duplication.

I hope you'll be able to attend Tuesday's public information centre about the River Rd. extension, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 110 Manitou Dr., between 4:30 and 8, with presentation and questions between 7-8.

It's been recommended that as many people as possible come prepared to ask tough questions during the question and answer It will be important to keep our questions brief, so as many as possible can participate.

One way to plan our questions is to review the attached briefing paper that Regional engineer Wayne Cheater presented to Regional council last week, which contains the contents for the May 17th presentation.

We think you will not be pleased: they want to proceed with the 2006 road design, and one of the reasons is to facilitate access to the properties that can be deveolped, thanks to out-of-date Kitchener zoning. We'd like to see it saved as a 200 acre natural-area park, and not destroyed by heavy and light industrial "parks", a business "park", and a subdivision. Know anyone who might like to purchase it the way 3 business men bought nearby Homer Watson Park, and donated it to the city years ago? Please forward this message to them!

We hope you will have time to give this document a study and be able to question staff both verbally and in writing. (And keep track of Regional staff's responses for future reference, in part, regarding due process.)

Most especially we need your expertise re the Jefferson, protection of wetlands, protection of water and air quality, etc. (Light pollution abatement?? Today, there were 24 lights ON, on the highway 8 Grand River Bridge! For what??)

There are two alternate suggestions for the road design that were proposed by the Friends of Hidden Valley several years ago, which would

If they must have a road, we suggest two alternatives that will not impact the environment in the same way as the current plan.

It's been challenging for the last 7 years, lobbying for a vision of a natural-heritage legacy for future regional citizens! The Friends of Hidden Valley are very grateful for your interest and help!

Sincerely,

Daphne Nicholls
