Hi Folks
A new report was released by the Natural Resource Defense Council regarding the transport of Tar Sands DilBit (diluted bitumen) through the Keystone Pipeline. This product, not oil is going by pipe to be processed in the US. There are numerous concerns regarding how corrosive it is and concerns that there is a lack of long term study to determine what the safety criteria should be. The NRDC states: "This combination of chemical corrosion and physical abrasion can
dramatically increase the rate of pipeline deterioration,"
I've included the study in the report in the attachments for your reference.
When the report was released, the Alberta Gov't was quick to respond with the familiar rhetoric however it was later revealed that they did not actually READ the report before giving their response. Here is a media release about this.
