          Council of Canadians opposes approval of new coal
            plant

          Chairperson Maude Barlow and the Council of Canadians today
          joined more than 40 organizations from across Canada in
          sending an open

            letter to federal Environment Minister Peter Kent urging
          him to launch an immediate review of the proposal from
          Calgary-based Maxim power to build a 500 megawatt coal plant
          at its Milner site near Grande Cache, Alberta. 
      CMA Releases Summary Report of National Town
              Hall Meetings

      Yesterday,

          the Canadian Medical Association released a summary of their
          series of national town hall meetings, which occurred earlier
          this year. Starting in Halifax the town halls were held in
          several major Canadian cities including: Toronto, Edmonton, La
          Prairie (Montreal), Vancouver (our own Ava Waxman was quoted
          in the summary which starts off with “to much applause, a
          representative of the Council for Canadians…”), and Ottawa.
