          Chairperson Maude Barlow and the Council of Canadians today
          joined more than 40 organizations from across Canada in
          sending an <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://canadians.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/letter-to-minister-kent-re-maxim-coal.pdf">open

            letter</a> to federal Environment Minister Peter Kent urging
          him to launch an immediate review of the proposal from
          Calgary-based Maxim power to build a 500 megawatt coal plant
          at its Milner site near Grande Cache, Alberta. </span></p>

          the Canadian Medical Association released a summary of their
          series of national town hall meetings, which occurred earlier
          this year. Starting in Halifax the town halls were held in
          several major Canadian cities including: Toronto, Edmonton, La
          Prairie (Montreal), Vancouver (our own Ava Waxman was quoted
          in the summary which starts off with “to much applause, a
          representative of the Council for Canadians…”), and Ottawa. </span></p>
