Highland Quarry
The Ministry of Natural Resources received 2,051 objections to The Highland Companies’ quarry plans in Melancthon during the Aggregate Resources Act’s 45-day commenting period, and 3,735 comments on the Environmental Registry which closed on July 11.

Environment Canada Job Cuts
The Fed. Government is cutting 700 hundred jobs with Envionment Canada including 200 professional scientists, engineers, meteorologists etc.

Canada doing "unprecedented" Tar Sands Lobbying
A new report by Friends of the Earth Europe shows that Canadian government accused of 'unprecedented' tar sands lobbying. Canadians set up a special lobbying team in London. Notes Shell and BP as "like-minded allies" in struggle to have tar sands accepted. "The Canadians are asking for further research and further delays. This tactic is reminiscent of the tobacco industry in its attempt to delay action on health," the Environment report.

Social costs of Carbon Underpriced
A new report states a U.S. government’s estimate of the social cost of carbon is flawed. The Gov't gives $21 per ton estimate currently which conflicts strongly with a new report that shows the "true" carbon costs are as high as $893 per ton in 2010 and $1,550 in 2050. Renewables passes Nuclear power
Consumption of primary energy derived from renewables recently exceeded current and historical consumption levels for nuclear energy. The multi-year upward trend in renewable consumption is driven by increasing consumption of biofuels and wind capacity additions.

Scientists oppose Keystone Pipeline
19 researchers from universities such as Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, Stanford and Columbia, as well as facilities such as the Woods Hole Research Center and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Signatories include geophysicists, oceanographers, climatologists, biologists and engineers say no to the pipe.
